Collaborations

Collaboration with iGEM ABOA

On August 1st 2024, we were contacted by Tommy Rihiinen, leader of the iGEM ABOA team, whose project was inspired by our predecessors IGEMINI, the iGEM Toulouse 2020 team. ABOA worked this year on ways to enrich cellular agriculture food with essential vitamins (A, E and C) by having them produced by bacteria. We found interest in each other's projects since we are both targeting the issue of food supply for long duration space missions.

He proposed that we combine our strengths to co-write a Handbook on space projects, meant to be used by future iGEMers. It contains iGEM projects ideas related to space, advice to lead a space project based on our experience, and aspects of our projects that would have been interesting to investigate if we had more time.

Here is our handbook for future iGEMers

Besides working on the handbook, we helped them in their project by putting them in contact with the team members of the 2020 Toulouse team. The ABOA team wanted to reuse the optogenetics circuits developed by IGEMINI.

This collaboration allowed us to explore other solutions for food supply during long duration space missions. We had the opportunity to work with another team of the iGEM space village and we aim to inspire future iGEMers to work together on space projects !

Participation in the Space Village Meetup

As a team participating in the Space Village 2024, we were invited to participate in the first ever Space Village Meet Up on the 30th of August 2024. The aim was to allow the teams to meet each other before the Grand Jamboree.

Every team had to give a short presentation of their project, then an exchange time was planned to encourage teams to discuss their concerns and expectations about the Space Village and the Grand Jamboree.
