OVERVIEW

In 2024, we remain committed to exploring the social, legal, and medical nuances that impact and are impacted by synthetic biology and our project, focused on cannabidiol (CBD), in order to improve and evolve our decisions. CBDynamics seeks to expand the accessibility of CBD-based medicines, with a view to facilitating both access to patients with medical conditions treatable with it, through synthetic production and reducing the cost of CBD-based products, with the initiative to develop the low-cost bioreactor, for example. To better assess the wide-ranging impacts of the CBDynamics project on society, we have chosen to segment it again into distinct sectors, namely: Academia, Public Organizations, Local Community, Government and Industry.

  • ACADEMIA:

The academic sector is directly affected by the potential of CBDynamics. This statement was confirmed from arduous studies and answers in the area we had, which demonstrated that CBD for laboratory routes promotes better therapeutic reception. With this, we understand that, with more research and incentives in this area, it can be promising for a relationship between social and scientific well-being, after all, it is with proposals like this that the academic world defines itself. In addition, the development of the project boosts the field of synthetic biology and brings visibility to the possible uses of CBD.

  • PUBLIC ORGANIZATIONS:

Public organizations can be directly impacted by the potential of the CBDynamics project because of the concern for public health and social welfare rooted in the origins of these institutions. As a way of corroborating the proposed idea, we went after organizations that deal with the subject of cannabis in order to build feedback on our project and seek consonance with the ideals of the associations.

  • LOCAL COMMUNITY:

In this second year of research, we were able to generate even more significant impacts on society. CBDynamics is not limited to the innovation of a synthetic cannabinoid-based drug; Our goal is also to understand and positively impact the local community. During our interactions with society, we had the opportunity to better understand the difficulties faced by those who need cannabidiol, adjusting our steps to help individuals in the face of the various feedbacks we receive.

  • GOVERNMENT:

The use of cannabidiol (CBD) in commercial products for therapeutic purposes has gained prominence in recent years, driven by a series of government manifestations and regulations that aim to ensure the safety and effectiveness of these products for the population. To understand and consider the governmental issues that involve and impact our project, we conducted a bibliographic review of bills and regulations in force and under discussion in Brazil, so that we can analyze the current scenario and future forecasts in this field. In addition, we consulted experts in the field of Law to answer some questions on the subject.

  • INDUSTRY:

The project seeks in its synthesis to positively impact the different areas of society, with emphasis on the industrial sector, which is extremely important for the social and economic construction of the country. In this context, we have the aspects of the project that directly affect this sphere, with attention to the production of drugs based on synthetic cannabidiol and how the presence of this alternative would impact the current cannabinoid market, since it has a different origin and production costs from the natural one.

  • We further deepened the issues raised last year, with the search for feedback and pertinent information from various fields of society and with the help of trained professionals engaged with the project. An analysis and update of the topics of Academia, Public Organizations, Local Community, Government, Industry and Health was developed, with updated data and an extension of the literature review written in the first half of the project, responding to feedback arising from meetings, interviews, among other activities. In this way, the potential of CBDynamics increased even more this year, with the organization of research and remarkable events, which were described and analyzed in the subtopic Integrated Human Practices. In addition to this more general analysis, encompassing various sectors of society, we also validate our inclusion projects and activities, through the verification of individuals who are part of the target audience we seek to reach with each action, such as the visually impaired, neurodivergent, among others. We know that it is not possible to truly understand and help science become more inclusive without the help of these people we aim to support. As such, we have included interviews, videos, and insights used to evolve our perspectives in the Inclusivity subtopic.

Therefore, we seek to highlight the importance and possible impact that our project has for synthetic biology, following our mission, vision and values established since the previous year. We have given a voice to individuals who have been harmed by the stigma surrounding cannabinoids. Follow our journey through these insights and data collected over another year of this project towards accessibility, safety and health.
