●HUBU-CHINA team and HUBU-WUCHANG-CHINA team

A lively academic exchange was held at Wuhan University's School of Life Sciences on the 24th of March 2024, between the WHU-China team and two teams from Hubei University, the HUBU-CHINA team and the HUBU-WUCHANG-CHINA team.

●JLU-NBBMS team

On the 7th of April 2024, the WHU-China team and the JLU-NBBMS team from Jilin University held an academic exchange on their respective projects at Wuhan University's School of Life Sciences. The confirmation of WHU-China's participation in the Synthetic Biology Monopoly project collaboration with JLU-NBBMS was made during this conversation.

●Hubei Synthetic Biology Open Conference

On the 27th of April 2024, the Hubei Synthetic Biology Open Conference took place at the Hubei University Conference Center. Universities from the Hubei area came together to present and discuss the development of their projects for the synthetic biology competition. Professor Jie Qiao from Hubei University of Technology, Professor Zhifan Yang from Hubei University, and Yi Xiao, the Shenzhen Synthetic Biology Competition organizer, attended the conference. The meeting was also attended by iGEM teams from China University of Geosciences, Wuhan University, Hubei University, and Huazhong University of Science & Technology.

●CCiC

WHU-China members attended the 11th CCiC (Conference of the China iGEMer Community), which took place at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in Suzhou. The conference was held over three days, from the 12th to the 14th of July, this year, 125 teams from around China attended, making it the largest conference in its history. For those interested in synthetic biology, it was also a great occasion that offered iGEM teams from all over China an opportunity to collaborate. The judges praised WHU-China's outstanding performance at the final award ceremony, awarding us the "Outstanding Project Presentation Award".

●NYCU Formosa team

On the 8th of August 2024, WHU-China held an online academic exchange with the NYCU_Formosa team. We both presented our projects while also discussing the expression of Lpp'OpmA on the cell membrane and protein folding. We had an enjoyable conversation and got a lot of new inspiration and experience.

●2024 iGEMer Central China Regional Exchange Conference

On the 24th of August 2024, several members of WHU-China joined the 2024 iGEMer Central China Regional Exchange Conference. The day's conference was mostly concerned with project presentations from various teams. Intestide was highly applauded by the judges after WHU-China presented it. We had previously made some adjustments based on feedback from the CCiC conference, so the ideas given by the instructors at this exchange were more in-depth and targeted.

●Huazhong Agricultural University and Abclonal Biotechnology

On August 25th, WHU-China paid a visit to Huazhong Agricultural University's National Key Laboratory of Crop Genetic Improvement and Abclonal Biotechnology. We also discussed project design ideas and experimental results with teams from Huazhong Agricultural University, Hubei University, and other universities.

●CUG-China

For our Defend Your Gut Battle educational event, we extended an invitation to CUG-China, our iGEM partner team. We put up standing posters for the CUG-China and WHU-China projects so that people could read about and understand our work while we were there. WHU-China's standing poster was also displayed by CUG-China at their campus education event.

Synthetic Biology Course

Team work with friends!

The implementation of the iBSRC course for university students and the SLI Workshop course for high school students was headed by ZQT-Nanjing and JLU-NBBMS respectively. WHU-China was one of the main lecturing teams in both of these courses, guiding students from both universities and high schools through the fundamental theories and applications of synthetic biology. Remarkably, those who finished the iBSRC course received completion certificates, which served as formal records of their participation in the academic attempt.

Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 white paper

In August 2024, WHU-iGEM, representing Wuhan University, participated an international seminar on "Applications and Safety of Escherichia coli Nissle 1917" alongside Peking University, Nanjing University of Technology, Hubei University, University of Science a nd Technology of China, Lanzhou University and Guangxi University. The seminar aimed to ga ther organizations, teams, and individuals worldwide with in-depth research and practical applications of Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 (EcN) to explore the latest advancements, challenges, and future directions in scientific research and applications. Discussions focused on topics such as the strain characteristics of EcN, protein expression, relevant modifications, and application prospects. Based on existing research and discussions, we aim to collaboratively draft a comprehensive EcN strain white paper, providing valuable references and guidance for global researchers and practitioners using EcN, thereby promoting the development of EcN research and applications and contributing to human health. The WHU-iGEM team summarized our experience with EcN, with student Cai Kailing writing the chapter "Comparison of Some Bacterial Therapeutic Modifications and ECN," comparing advantages and disadvantages of engineered bacteria like Salmonella, Listeria, and microalgae with EcN, offering a useful guidance for users in synthetic biology regarding bacteria strain selection.
