Inclusivity
Introduction

Throughout our project we have given serious consideration to promoting inclusion. Making our events accessible to everyone who wants to take part is a top priority. Therefore, in each part of our project, we strive to involve different groups of participants. Our programmes reach as diverse a population as possible in order to spread education about IBD, especially among marginalised groups. To this end, we have adopted four forms of campaign strategy.

1) Elderly and township children in northwest China: This involves promoting direct education for the elderly and children in northwest China.

2) Hearing impaired groups: To ensure the inclusion of the hearing impaired, seven schools, LZU-CHINA, BIT, HainanU-China, SCU-China, CJUH-JLU-China, NJTECH-CHINA-A and ZJUT-China, jointly carried out the project theme promotion in sign language.

3) Multilingual: In order to inform more people about IBD, we produced a popular science booklet in seven languages: Chinese, English, Russian, French, Spanish and Arabic. Our WeChat official account also uses Chinese and English bilingualism to write manuscripts.

4) Making wiki pages inclusive: To ensure that people with reading disabilities can easily read our wiki, we have adopted a special design to make it easy to read. In this page, we will focus on each of these aspects.

Old people in northwest China

We came to Lanzhou Chengguan District kangle Hospital to carry out inflammatory bowel disease publicity activities for the elderly and caregivers.

On the one hand, it can improve the awareness of care workers about inflammatory bowel disease, so that they can better take care of elderly patients in their daily care work. On the other hand, promoting inflammatory bowel disease knowledge to the elderly can help improve their understanding and prevention awareness of the disease. Through these activities, we can raise social awareness of IBD, help patients achieve chronic disease self-management, and improve their quality of life.

Village children in northwest China

With relatively little access to information, children in rural areas of northwest China have limited knowledge about IBD.We have therefore targeted this group in particular with our awareness campaigns.
LZU-China established partnerships with several campus teams, trained volunteers, and went to township schools in northwest China to carry out popular science lectures on IBD. During the seminar, the volunteers used vivid language to explain the symptoms, causes and prevention methods of inflammatory bowel disease to the children. At the same time, we have produced a fun brochure to convey the knowledge about IBD in a way that is easy for children to understand and accept. Through these publicity activities, we hope to raise the awareness of inflammatory bowel disease among rural children in northwest China, enhance their awareness of self-protection, and prevent the occurrence of the disease.

Hearing impaired

To ensure the inclusion of the hearing impaired, seven schools, LZU-CHINA, BIT, HainanU-China, SCU-China, CJUH-JLU-China, NJTECH-CHINA-A and ZJUT-China, jointly promoted the project theme in sign language. Seven episodes of popular science content and project promotion videos on different biological and medical topics were released on multiple social platforms. Each popular science article is interspersed with a video of sign language, on the one hand, to help the hearing-impaired people realize the importance of health, improve their attention to their own health, and encourage them to actively take preventive measures and seek medical treatment in time. On the other hand, it also allows the hearing people to understand the language of the hearing impaired, and establishes a connection between the silent and the sound world.

Multilingual inclusiveness
Brochures in seven languages

In order to let more people know about IBD, we have produced a popular science brochure in Chinese, English, Russian, French, Spanish and Arabic. These brochures are informative and include information on the definition, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of inflammatory bowel disease. We use clear and concise language with vivid pictures and diagrams to make it easy for readers to understand the content of the brochure. We hope to increase public awareness of IBD, reduce misconceptions and fears about the disease, promote early diagnosis and treatment of patients, and improve the quality of life of patients.

Bilingual promotion articles on WeChat official accounts

Our WeChat official account also employs Chinese and English bilingualism for manuscript writing. This approach not only satisfies the domestic readers' demand for professional knowledge but also opens a window for international friends to understand inflammatory bowel disease. It promotes the exchange and integration of medical knowledge both at home and abroad and contributes our strength to enhancing global awareness of inflammatory bowel disease. Inclusion of Wiki pages

To make our wiki more accessible to dyslexics, we have made changes to several aspects of the site in accordance with our guidelines for dyslexia-friendly websites. We do this by selecting special fonts, large headings, and the main text size of the desktop version larger than 12pt.
