Team Collaboration

Our project aims to develop an intelligent probiotic for the early prediction and treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). This probiotic detects the levels of thiosulfate in the gut, providing an early warning for IBD, and releases Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) to repair the intestinal mucosa. Additionally, the probiotic is equipped with a safety kill switch to ensure it does not persist in the environment or human body.

During the CCiC conference, we discussed project improvements with teams such as JIASHU-SouthChina. We also collaborated with the Squirrel-CHN team to select Escherichia coli Nissle 1917, a safe, endotoxin-free strain. These collaborations have driven the development of our project, enhancing the safety and efficacy of the probiotic.

Participation in CCiC

Our team participated in the 11th Conference of China iGEMers Community (CCiC), where we met several outstanding teams, including JIASHU-SouthChina. During the conference, we shared the progress of our probiotic project for IBD and gained valuable insights from other teams researching the same field. This exchange broadened our perspective and opened up opportunities for future collaboration.

Collaboration with Squirrel-CHN

At a dry-lab event, we met the Squirrel-CHN team. During our discussions, we found that both teams were focused on modifying gut probiotics. Through in-depth discussions, we shared our research experiences, especially in the design and application of probiotics. As researchers in oral probiotics, we agreed that selecting the endotoxin-free *Escherichia coli* Nissle 1917 strain as the engineered strain would be safer and more suitable. This collaboration provided valuable references for our project and advanced both teams' progress in the field of gut microbiota.

Conclusion

Our project develops intelligent probiotics for the prediction and treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and includes a kill switch to ensure safety. Through exchanges with teams like JIASHU-SouthChina at the CCiC and collaboration with the Squirrel-CHN team in choosing a safe strain, we have improved the safety and efficacy of our project.
