Synbio Literature Lead
Jacob is a Biochemistry graduate with a specific interest in applying engineering principles to knowledge in the life sciences to innovate and improve lives. Next year, he will be studying a masters degree in Systems and Synthetic Biology, where he hopes to learn more about scaling up the production of drugs, biomaterials and food by engineering organisms.
Wet Lab & Outreaching Lead
Candi has just finished her second year in BEng Biochemical Engineering. She enjoys exploring how her interdisciplinary knowledge from synthetic biology and engineering can be used to tackle real life problems. Candi has strong social abilities for relationship building, great organization skills and her passion for wet lab make her a great Outreach and Lab Manager.
Human Practices Lead
Hannah is currently doing her BSc in Bioprocessing of New Medicines (Business and Management). She has a very strong inclination towards synthetic biology and diagnostic research. She’s also a great team player and has great communication skills, thus, enabling collaboration with various stakeholders.
Fundraising & Mentoring Lead
Eshaan is in his third year of the BSc Bioprocessing of New Medicines (Science & Engineering) programme and is particularly interested in pharmacovigilance. He is also very interested in life science consulting and related fields within the life science industry. He is SepScan's Outreach and Fundraising Manager.
Fundraising Lead
Ayushmaan is currently pursuing his BSc in Biochemistry. He's particularly interested in health policy and management in LMICs - having led a social enterprise to train healthcare workers in Nepal. He is also currently a research assistant at the UCL Institute of Global Health and has previously pursued a biosecurity research fellowship at the University of Cambridge. His personal experiences with sepsis motivated him to generate the idea of exploring point-of-care tests for sepsis in the Indian subcontinent.
Wiki & Wet Lab Lead
Amy is starting her 3rd year as a student in BSc Biomedical Sciences and Organic Chemistry. She has a board interest in synthetic biology, neurosciences, and programming. Amy is excited to take on the role of wet lab and wiki lead to enhance her lab skills and deliver an engaging wiki.
Modelling Lead & Wiki Member
Yunning recently graduated from UCL with a BSc in Biochemistry (Molecular Biology Stream). Through her internships, she developed a keen interest and hands-on experience in machine learning and bioinformatics. She is particularly fascinated by how computational tools can be employed to analyse high-throughput biological data and unveil intricate insights into the genetics regulatory mechanisms behind complex diseases.
I am a PhD student at University College London. My current research is focused on the development of a Digital Twin for AAV production
Gregorio guided ideation and project planning; supervised wet lab sessions for protein expression.
Lecturer in Bionanotechnology and Biochemical Engineering, London Centre for Nanotechnology and Dept. Biochemical Engineering, UCL
I am currently an EngD student at the department of Biochemical Engineering at UCL. My project focuses on synthetic biology approaches for alternative production of adeno-associated virus. The EngD position is part of the Centre of Excellence programme with Cytiva. Prior to my EngD I held positions as a research assistant at the University of Oxford and a production scientist at The Native Antigen company.
I'm an EngD student at UCL working on applying synthetic biology for optimising plasmid production strains of E. coli. I hold an MRes degree in Synthetic Biology from Imperial College and have experience working on both cell engineering and also bioprocess development. It was a great to help out this current batch of iGEM student!
Will is the co-founder of BlueDot Impact, a start-up running courses to help people address global challenges in emerging tech fields. Their Biosecurity and AI Safety courses have trained over 2,500 people from 120 countries, including staff at the UK Government, CDC, WHO, Anthropic, Vox Media and TIME magazine. He previously founded the Cambridge University Alt Protein Project to foster innovation in biotech alternatives to meat and dairy. He strongly believes in the power of responsible tech entrepreneurship to change the world for the better."
PhD Candidate, helped supervise molecular biology labwork and supply resource for the iGEM team.
PhD Researcher at UCL with expertise in synthetic biology and protein design and engineering, both computationally using deep learning methods, and in the wet lab (including using automation and robotics).
Sara Sousa Rosa graduated in Cellular Biology and Biotech and has MSc in Biotechnology from University of Lisbon. At iBET, Sara worked on developing downstream processes for complex biopharmaceuticals like viral vectors & VLPs for clinical applications. Sara joined IBB as research assistant, where she developed downstream processing strategies for monoclonal antibodies, plasmid DNA, and EVs purifications. Sara is a PDRA at sUCL, working on the development of a continuous mRNA vaccines manufacturing process.
Final-year PhD Student in Biochemical Engineering, guided and provided support for ELISA.
John-Paul provided guidance for periplasmic protein expression, harvesting, and purification.
Soutrick assisted in applying the Quasi Steady-State Approximation (QSSA) to intermediate species and helped derive a quantitative expression for the product.
