Medal Criteria

Bronze Medal Requirements

Competition Deliverables

We built a wiki, we are in the process of producing a presentation video, we have submitted the judging form, and we will of course attend the judging session.

Project Attributions

We believe that giving people the credit they deserve is very important. We filled out the attribution form according to the standard form with everyone we could think of who helped us during the project.

Project Description

To communicate our project in a concise way to the outside world and other teams, already early in the project, to promote potential collaborations we made the project description.

Contribution

We hope to contribute to future teams with our inclusivity guide and how we put it into practice, our way of thinking about sustainability, our information letter for when you are doing interviews and our way of organizing lab work via mini projects as well as our safety guide for lab.

Silver Medal Requirements

Engineering Success

Reflecting on our work and improving it is definitely crucial in a good project. The build-test-learn-design engineering cycle is a helpful framework to achieve this and work towards better designs. We implemented four different engineering cycles, three of which are interconected with eachother.

Human Practices

Continuously seeking feedback from a diverse range of stakeholders, evaluating it, and implementing improvements is crucial for all aspects of our projects, whether in outreach, sustainability, wet lab, or the project's economic viability.

Gold Medal Requirements

The Gold Medal requirement is to show our efforts for three self chosen special prizes. In order to show excellence in synthetic biology we decided to focus on measurements, inclusivity and sustainability special prizes.

Inclusivity

As synthetic biology will shape the futures of all of us we find it very important that everyone is able to learn about it. Therefore our first pillar is accessibility. Our second pillar, representation in science, focuses on fighting implicit bias and providing role models for young girls in science.

Measurement

As our project involved multiple measurements to decide how effective our water treatment solution is, we deemed good measurements very important.

Sustainability

Making sure that the project is sustainable is very important to us. We chose to focus our sustainability work around the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) 5, 12, 15 and 17, while also giving attention to the IDGs (Inner Development Goals) and implementing stakeholder feedback.
