Meet the team

Elīna Jansone

Team lead, Wiki design & Wet lab
2nd year Computational Biology student at ETH Zurich, originally from Latvia. Likes growing new plants, practicing martial arts and drinking tea. You can often see her organizing and helping out with nearly any event on campus in Zurich.

Tanaïs Moreau

Wet lab team lead, Project Design & HP
Doing her Master thesis at the Fussenegger lab in D-BSSE, ETH Basel, enrolled at the Ecole Normale Supérieure of Lyon in France. She enjoys playing badminton with friends and going on adventures in her free time. As a real Bretonne, she is a Master of crêpe-making and will gladly prove it to you.

Tim Andermann

Wet lab, Education and Planning
Like the other Tim, originally from Germany and just obtained his Bachelor's degree in Biology at D-BIOL in Zurich and now starting his real Biotech journey at D-BSSE in Basel. Loves a good bench press as much as a clean lab bench after a long day in the lab. Big fan of Star Wars.

Tim Appel

Wet lab & Visual design
Like the other Tim, originally from Germany and just obtained his Bachelor's degree in Biology at D-BIOL in Zurich and now starting his real Biotech journey at D-BSSE in Basel. When time permits, he goes LARPing and enjoys some nice rounds of board games and D&D.

Camille Membrez

Wet lab and outreach
Recent receiver of the ETH Master's degree in Microbiology and Immunology. Outside of the lab, she takes care of plants and makes puzzles. She also loves going out to concerts and is a serious foodie. Travels to Geneva whenever she can to spend time with family.

Elias Nehring

Dry lab and finances
After graduating with a degree in Horticultural Sciences in Germany and spending a year in consulting, Elias started studying Computational Biology at ETH. Tends garden to tend back home and helps out with student union events in Zurich.

Principal Investigator
Prof. Dr. Nicola Zamboni

Professor at the Institute of Molecular Systems Biology (IMSB) in the Department of Biology (D-BIOL). His research focuses on the development of analytical and computational methods for investigating the cellular metabolism.

Experimental Advisor
Dr. Tsvetan Kardashliev

The original engineer of the OxyR plasmid during his time in the lab of Prof. Dr. Sven Panke at D-BSSE in Basel. Currently a senior researcher at the University of Basel.

Instructors
Michelle Scharte

Michelle is an iGEM alumna of 2019 (Groningen) and a PhD student in the Sauer Lab of the IMSB since 2021. She is interested in the metabolic adaptations of bacteria in different environments, particularly in the clinical context. She is also an avid gardener and cook, and loves choir music.

Dr. Emmanuel Matabaro

Obtained his Bachelor's degree in Rwanda, Master's degree in China and PhD in the Künzler lab at ETH, now works as a lab manager and research scientist in the Sauer/Zamboni and Beltrao labs at IMSB. His research focuses on the characterization of post-translational modifications of proteins, protein engineering and protein-protein interactions. In his free time, he loves doing sports, listening to music and meeting friends.
