Hi, i’m David!

I’m currently studying biotechnology with a focus on bioprocess engineering in Vienna. Out of my interest in student-led projects and synthetic biology, I joined the iGEM 2024 Team in Vienna. I was curious to find out how projects like this develop first-hand by involving myself in everything that is part of it and I can readily recommend anyone to participate in this competition. It was a great learning experience seeing how you approach a real world problem (!), not only because of its technical aspects: to analyse it, develop a deep understanding of its causes and to develop a fitting solution but also to work in a group project and to learn what drives and motivates people. I am truly grateful for participating in this years project and wish everyone the same inspiration and possibilities synthetic biology gives, as it has given me!

I love puzzles. If the pieces don’t quite fit—even better. That is one of the reasons I was drawn to synthetic biology and iGEM. I joined this year’s team to challenge myself by working on a project with fellow synth bio enthusiasts, from (our!) idea’s conception to its conclusion. With a background in microbiology and genetics, a knack for organization, and a (hopefully) blossoming future in bioinformatics, I am eager to test myself in areas of project execution I haven’t tackled before. I’m excited to exchange ideas and learn from my peers while contributing to a project that addresses real-world challenges.

Apart from solving my puzzles, you could also find me obsessing over Japanese culture and binge-reading fantasy books!
