The iGEM spirit of open science and collaboration between teams encouraged to develop tools for future teams through all aspects of our project. On this page we have documented a brief summary of our key contributions to the iGEM community, science, and society.

POLYP Framework

Following on from our meta-analysis of past teams iGEM’s approaches to human practices, we aimed to create a framework for human practices that is by and for synthetic biologists. The 5-step process involves identifying the problem, orientating your values and stakeholders, learning from conversations, critical reflection on your thoughts, and predicting future problems. By being a cyclical and iterative method, our approach centers the scientists among cultural, social, and ethical concerns that unfold concurrently with the design cycle. We envisage that future iGEM teams will benefit from implementing and developing on the framework we have presented. To find out more, see our human practices page.
