Education

Through a street survey, we recognized a gap in the public's understanding of the Rh blood type system. Many participants lacked basic knowledge about this important topic. In response, we created a podcast that provided essential information on the Rh system, while also giving listeners a brief introduction to our project. Additionally, we extended our educational efforts to local elementary schools and after-class education centers, delivering lectures aimed at enhancing students' understanding of blood types and the immune system. Through these initiatives, we raise awareness and spark curiosity about biology and our project in particular. As part of our mission to educate society about the importance of understanding our blood, we recently visited the Bread of Life Gospel Center in Beitou. This community space serves students from kindergarten through 12th grade, providing a safe environment for them to gather after school while their parents are at work. Teaching such a diverse age range presented a challenge, as it was difficult to ensure that everyone fully grasped the concepts we presented. However, our goal was to ensure that all participants, from the youngest students to the teachers and volunteers observing, learned something valuable. We believe that understanding the components of the human body is essential knowledge for everyone—not just for experts. This conviction led us to select this center as the ideal location for our educational efforts. At first, many of the students showed little interest in our topic—blood. However, we were determined to make it engaging. By breaking down complex concepts, such as the components of blood and the roles of blood cells, into simpler explanations, we successfully captured their attention. As the lesson progressed, the students became increasingly enthusiastic, asking questions and eagerly participating in discussions. Witnessing their engagement and curiosity made all of our preparation worthwhile, reinforcing our belief that knowledge about our bodies should be accessible to everyone.
