We joined a convention held by Team Athens, SynBio and Beyond, on September 29th to introduce our project focused on addressing the risks associated with blood transfusion mismatches, particularly those involving the Rhesus D (Rh D) blood type system. Motivated by the serious complications that arise from such mismatches, including hemolysis, we aim to contribute to the field of transfusion safety by developing a solution to convert Rh blood types, ultimately making universal red blood cells (RBCs) available for all patients. To achieve this, we designed a two-step blood group conversion kit. The process involves attaching a protein to the Rh antigen and purifying the red blood cells, ensuring sterility and compatibility through a disposable, medical-grade system. This collaboration has been an invaluable opportunity to present our work, and we deeply appreciate Athens University’s interest and support. We look forward to future exchanges and learning from each other to advance in this important endeavor.
iGEM IISERTVM: Unique Plant Fragrance in your country (World Environmental Health Day)
We joined iGEM IISERTVM’s celebration of World Environmental Health Day on September 26. Each team shared a photo and a description of a famous fragrance from their countries, and we shared a special tea-based perfume.
Although Taiwan is a relatively small island, its diverse physical features, location, and climate allow the cultivation of many crops. The mountain areas of Taiwan are especially suitable for tea, and Taiwanese tea is known for its special flavors. P. Seven, a Taiwanese fragrance company, used Taiwanese tea to develop the《Aged Tea》perfume, which went on to become the winner for the 2022 Art and Olfaction Independent Award. The perfume includes the scents of many renowned plants produced in Taiwan, including green tea, oolong tea, oriental tea, herbs, smoked plums, and Taiwan fir (cedar).
iGEM KCIS Xiugang Taipei: Postcard Exchange
We joined KCIS Xiugang iGEM’s postcard exchange event by sharing our project with teams around the world. We created a postcard showcasing the purpose of our project and its connections with UNDSGs. In addition, teams translated postcards to several languages to connect with people from different backgrounds, and we translated our postcards into Mandarin.
