Meet the miRADAR team!

Marieke is a Master's student in Molecular Life Sciences and our team captain. She’s passionate about science, communication, and problem-solving. For her project, she worked on miRNA amplification. Marieke keeps our team on track and leads meetings. Outside of work, she enjoys dancing, and lifting team spirits!

Without Toos, our meetings and correspondence would be in disarray. She keeps all the meeting notes and email accounts perfectly organized while pursuing her Master’s in Molecular Life Sciences. Her project focuses on cell-free expression of toehold switches. In her free time, she enjoys playing the violin, baking, and crocheting!

Ivar, an MSc student in Molecular Life Sciences, ensures our projects align perfectly and keeps the team fueled with cookies. His own project focuses on expressing toehold switches in vivo. Outside the lab, Ivar enjoys hiking, board games, and is amazing at bread and pasta making.

Nishant, our safety manager, ensures lab safety and keeps our inventory in check, with expertise in CANS, plasmids, and bacterial strains. He’s pursuing a Master’s in Biotechnology and is testing logic gates in vivo for his project. Outside the lab, Nishant loves playing and watching football.

Bram, a Master’s student in Biotechnology, plays a vital role in our Human Practices and Outreach team, engaging with experts to integrate their insights into our project. His individual focus is on developing the threshold detection system. Outside the lab, Bram enjoys sleeping as a hobby.

Daisy, our Human Practices and Outreach Coordinator, organizes stakeholder interviews, analyzes insights, and manages outreach events like educational activities. She’s pursuing an MSc in Food Technology, but in her free time, Daisy enjoys crocheting and ceramics.

Sam, a Master’s student in Bioinformatics, combines his love for computers, board games, and video games with his work on optimizing logic gate designs. He contributes to Wiki building and is part of our Human Practices and Outreach team, ensuring stakeholder insights are integrated into our project.

Renske, our treasure(r), manages the balance sheet and transactions while pursuing her Master’s in Bioinformatics. Though she prefers MATLAB over pipettes, she’s essential to our Dry Lab, working on modeling the threshold detection system. In her free time, she enjoys music on her record player and spending time with friends.

Mathilde, a Master's student in Bioinformatics and Molecular Life Sciences, plays a key role in securing our project funding. She handles Dry Lab tasks like classifying disease-related miRNAs and modeling toehold switch designs. In her free time, she enjoys football, Zumba, and hiking

Ruben, an MSc student in Molecular Life Sciences, plays a key role in building collaborations and managing sponsor relationships. He also contributed to our Wiki by handling the coding. Outside of his studies, Ruben enjoys working on Raspberry pi projects, hiking and has a passion for his aquarium.

Ioanna, the only Bachelor’s student on our team, is pursuing a BSc in Animal Sciences. She coordinates the design team, creates social media content, and contributes to the wiki layout. In her spare time, she enjoys horse riding, dancing, and gardening.

Kette, our design fairy, brings our project to life with stunning visuals, from logos to video illustrations. Combining her love for art with her Master’s in Biotechnology, she focuses on alternative signal outputs for toehold switches. Outside of design, Kette enjoys concerts, festivals, martial arts, and creating more art!

Jelmer, an MSc student in Biotechnology, is a key member of our design team, handling video production and the Wiki. He also connects with other iGEM teams, promoting our project globally. His individual work focuses on the threshold detection system. In his free time, Jelmer enjoys swimming, reading, and baking.

Without ToToe we would not have made it. He provides us with endless mental support and is also someone to lay your head on when you are tired. He joins us on our adventures with a big smile and hopes to see you all in Paris!
