Zhijie Chen

Hi! I am Sam,a G2 student at Guangdong Country Garden School, and this year marks my first participation in the 2024 iGEM competition. Chemistry has always been a strong suit of mine, and my fascination with it has only grown as I’ve progressed through my studies. However, my school’s curriculum primarily focuses on theoretical knowledge, limiting my exposure to hands-on experimentation. Participating in iGEM offers me a unique opportunity to bridge this gap. I am eager to work in a laboratory setting, where I can actively engage with experimental instruments, design and execute projects, and analyze data firsthand. I believe that this experience will not only enhance my practical skills and problem-solving abilities but also deepen my understanding of professional scientific methodologies. Beyond academics, I also enjoy playing basketball, badminton, and billiards, which help me stay active and balanced.

Hi! I’m Xiaoqi Deng, a grade 12 student from Chengdu Golden Apple Jincheng No. 1 Secondary School. In team Squirrel-Shenzhen, I’m a HP member. This is my first time participating in iGEM, so I’m quite excited about everything in this competition. In my eyes, synthetic biology is a mysterious and critical subject, and this is a great chance for me to explore it. Also, as a HP member, I realized the importance of commercialization of projects and got to know some basic ways to achieve this. All in all, I pretty much enjoy the iGEM 2024 Competition and hope our team can stand out in the competition.

Yanzi Guo

Hello everyone, I'm Guo Yanzi. I'm currently in the 11th grade in Guangzhou. It is a team role in IGME. This is the first time I have participated in IGME, but I am confident that I can complete this competition and do a good job in teamwork. I studied economics in high school, but at the same time, I am also full of interest in biology. I hope to combine economy and biology in this competition. Learn your own strengths and learn your own shortcomings at the same time. At the same time, in life, I am a sports expert. I like badminton, tennis, basketball and other sports. Basketball is now a second-class athlete. In my spare time at home, I will also talk about the piano. At present, the piano has reached level 9. I hope that in this activity, I can better cooperate with my teammates and learn more.

Jiatong Liang

Nihao to all (means hello)! My name is Jessica Liang, a 10th grader at Basis International School Guangzhou. My favorite subject is biology, and I enjoy learning it. Share a funny story. My dream career is related to biology, more specifically, animal protection. iGEM gave me my first time working in a laboratory for a continuously big project (in our school, we don't normally have labs). In the 2024 Squirrel-Shenzhen team, I am one of the members in the wet lab. I can't believe that I can actually handle all these labs and actually have a good performance on them. Even my leading teacher said that I am born for labs! That makes me happier, and I changed my dream career to be a scientist working in laboratory. Thank you iGEM! I will keep my interest in discovering biology and have a great journey in iGEM!

Jiachen Jiang

Hi! I’m Jessie Jiang, currently a 11th grader at ZhiXin International School. In the 2024 Squirrel-Shenzhen CHINA iGEM team, I take on the role of Wet Lab member. This is my first time participating in iGEM. I think that biology is a very interesting subject, it makes me understand more about our life, and igem gives me a good opportunity to explore the field of synthetic biology more deeply. I will seize this opportunity to learn from each other with my teammates and be a better person!

Han Wu

Hey, I hope all are well, I'm a 16-year-old student from Oundle School, an institution in the UK, and I'm about to embark on my junior year. I've chosen A-levels in biology, chemistry, and economics—subjects that not only challenge me but also drive my curiosity about the world, from the tiniest molecular interactions to the big-picture forces shaping our economy. I'm passionate about synthetic biology, and I can't wait to dive into this competition. The thrill of exploring new possibilities in the lab is something that truly excites me. But when I'm not tinkering with experiments in the lab, you'll probably find me on the basketball court, making the gains in the gym, or just vibing to some music. I'm fluent in both Mandarin and English, and I’ve even got a little French up my sleeve to keep things interesting. This competition is more than just a challenge for me; it's an opportunity to collaborate with my amazing teammates as we push ourselves to the limit. We're all in to fight for and to bring home that gold. Go Squirrels!"

Chenyu Zhang

Hi there, this is Ryan,I am a 11th grade student at Shenzhen Middle School and this is my first experience in iGEM. When I was 13, I became interested in biology and joined a biology competition group. I learned some high school biology and some structural biology. I found that I am good at it. I first hear IGEM when I was in 9th grade. It occurs to me that it is a different way to get to know biology experiments and to learn to think and act like a scientist, which is a wonderful chance for me to learn knowledge beyond school books. To learn more, to explore, and to learn to do research are just enchanting for me. I am glad to be an IGEMer.
