Yuxin Li

Hey!! I'm Yuxin Li, but you can call me Linda since people always tell me that they stress on the pronunciation of 'Yuxin.' I'm from Shanghai but am currently a junior studying at the International School of the Sacred Heart in Tokyo, Japan. I may be a bit shy at first, but the real ones can tell you that I'm a bubbly burst of energy! I fell in love with animals since I was little (monthly trips to the aquarium were a thing…), and my top 3 favorites in school have always been: physics, chemistry, and biology. My biggest dream is to be able to work as a doctor: specifically, a wildlife vet. (I mean, who doesn't love seeing a baby koala everyday at work?) So, when I heard about iGEM and the chance to dive into biology at a whole new level, I jumped at it. It was definitely the right choice, as it has not only let me conduct research in a lab and make fantastic friends but also develop essential skills like communication and organization from working with such a big team. Aside from all the science, music is a big part of my life. I've grown up with the piano since I was 3 and have picked up violin, guitar, and singing along the way. Music is a must in my life and I will never go anywhere without my headphones and my monthly playlist. (If you try to take away my headphones, I will actually hate you forever... :'p)

Through these tasks, I deepened my understanding of experiments and improved my creative and communication skills. More importantly, I made some great friends in this project, and I truly cherish the time we spent together during the experiments. These experiences and friendships are invaluable to me. For the dry team, I was responsible for writing articles for our public account and contributing to the wiki page about our project. Additionally, I helped draft interview scripts and the presentation script for our August 10th event. Through these experiences, I honed my writing and communication skills and gained a deeper appreciation for the importance of teamwork. I greatly value every opportunity in the iGEM project and hope to showcase my passion and love for science through my efforts, ultimately achieving success.

Yichen Gao

Hello!I'm Yichen Gao or you can call me Gavin. I'm a year 10 student from Shenzhen Foreign Language School. It's my great honor to be a wet lab team member in IGEM. To be honest, although I had great interest in biology from the young age, I had little information about the synthetic biology before taking part in the IGEM. Thanks for IGEM, I learned a lot and met lots of brilliant students all around China. I am a person who really love making things by my own hands so IGEM gives me a great chance to realize it. During the experiment I actively participated in the lab work and helped my team clean the equipments in the lab. I carefully did everyday work and wroted the experiment reports for 3 times. I shared them to my teammates to make progress together. During the lab work, sometime we got different results as we expected but I tried to analyze them and shared my opinions with my teammates and the advisor. Two weeks' lab work is too short for me, now I've got lots of interest in synthetic biology. I can't wait for my next experience in synthetic biology!
