Education

Social Media

We have published educational articles about our project on Facebook, Instagram, WeChat Official Account, Weibo, and RED. By covering topics such as staying up late, neurodegenerative diseases, and flavonoids, we utilize our research findings to educate the public. In the first article on staying up late, we explored the main characteristics of people who stay up late and the psychological and sociological reasons behind it, providing the public with a clear and concise understanding of the phenomenon. We also discussed the hazards of staying up late, including obesity and cardiovascular diseases. In subsequent articles, we delved into the definition, pathogenesis, and prevention methods of neurodegenerative diseases, emphasizing why staying up late can accelerate the pathological process of these diseases. In the final article, we introduced flavonoids to the public, explaining their chemical composition, classification, and functions.

During our social media operations, we attracted over 100 users including adolescents and middle-aged individuals aged 15-50, which perfectly align with the age range of our target customers. Additionally, we sourced evidence-based research findings and chart data from reputable websites such as Google Scholar and PubMed, enhancing the scientific rigor and rationality of our educational articles. Recognizing the public's limited understanding of professional biological knowledge, we translated technical terminology into easy-to-understand language, effectively disseminating educational information. Lastly, given our promotional platforms span both Chinese and international social media, we crafted our educational articles in both Chinese and English, internationalizing our educational outreach.

Our team has been running our social media accounts for several months. Because our aim of running social media is to educate, our main content of account is about popularization of science. Besides, in order to spread our article as far as possible, we set accounts in different platforms. For people in the worldwide, we upload our article in Facebook and Instagram; for Chinese readers, we upload our articles in WeChat public account and RED.

Reflections

Since the launch of our social media accounts, we have been actively sharing information about the prevalence of late-night activities, the associated risks, and the health issues that can arise from this behavior. We have also provided an overview of our primary focus—rose flavonoids—and introduced each team member to personalize our project. Throughout the research process, we were struck by the widespread nature of late-night habits and the significant challenges they pose to public health. Managing our social media presence has not only informed others about our work but has also deepened our understanding of the critical need for this project aimed at improving physical well-being. This experience has reinforced our sense of responsibility and heightened our motivation to make a positive impact in the lives of others. Engaging with our audience has illuminated the importance of raising awareness about these pressing health issues, and we are committed to continuing our efforts to educate and support individuals in reducing staying up late and preventing early AD.
