Louis: I am Louis, one of the two student leaders of the NASSZ iGEM high school team. I am passionate about molecular/synthetic biology as I believe it holds a bright future. I enjoy being with my friends and travelling.

Jack: My name is Jack, I am a high school student. I initiated the iGEM team last year. I chose this biology competition because I am very interested in science investigations. I am currently managing the team, making sure we can finish everything on time. I hope we can finish the project successfully as it is truly interesting. I like hiking and going on adventures. I also like to draw, do animations and play some sports.

Janna: My name is Janna. I am interested in biology and like to do handicrafts. I am very glad to participate in the iGEM project and hope to obtain good results with my team.

Allen: My name is Allen Song. I enjoy playing soccer and I’m good at table tennis. Soccer helps me appreciate the power of teamwork, while table tennis sharpens my reflexes and focus. These hobbies not only keep me fit but also provide a way to relax amidst my busy academic life. In the future, I hope to find a balance between academics and sports, continue to develop my potential and contribute to the iGEM team.

Jerry: My name is Jerry, my Chinese name is Yang YanChong. I am good at history and geography and I’d like to play some relevant games, such as Heart of Iron IV. I also like a to play some sports, such as badminton and swimming. But my favourite thing to do is to learn more, and my best subject is biology.

Eisson: My name is Eisson. I am interested in car racing. I am good at math and like to play badminton. I am excited to be a member of this iGEM team.

Alin: Hi everyone. My name is Alin. I like to play sports in my leisure time such as badminton and volleyball. I am keen on studying science. I am honoured to participate in this iGEM competition.

Michael He: I am Michael He. I have a serious and conscientious personality, coupled with sensitivity and ambition. I enjoy gaining new knowledge and skills, watching anime, and playing golf. My favourite subject is Mathematics. In addition to my academic pursuits, I love contemplating life and listening to music. I hope to gain diverse experiences, expand my knowledge, and excel in my academic career by participating in the iGEM competition.

Jessica: Hey, my name is Jessica aka Cube. I enjoy doing a variety of stuff outside my school life, but I am passionate about sports and gaming. I am in a love-hate relationship with school, because I dislike and love school at the same time, lol. Believe it or not I’m not a fan of reading, but I am interested in biology and that’s one of the main reasons why I’m part of the iGEM team. I hope I can gain knowledge and experience in the labs during this competition.

Violet: My name is Violet. I am a member of the iGEM team because I enjoy the art of biology and doing experiments. This led me to be passionate about discovering new things. Outside of school, I’m a fan of ACGs (Anime, Comics, Games). I also enjoy doing art, reading, and writing fan fiction. I’m happy that I’m in the team, I’m eager to learn and I’ll give my best.

Carson: Hello, I’m Carson. In my free time I like to watch anime and play games with my friends. One of my hobbies is to play football. I’m good at physical activities. In the future I hope that our iGEM team can obtain a great result in the competition and that I will learn new things and gain more skills.

Martina: I like listening to music best since I like all kinds of music except Horror music. I think music can dispel sorrow and I enjoy the experience of listening to music. I like deep breathing too, which is a good way to relax. I love writing and I am good at it, whether it is a story, novel or article. I am an optimistic girl, I feel sad and negative once in a while, but I know for sure that I will get through all the difficulties and that I will have a bright future. Furthermore, I am always following my heart and trying to be me. l can find new beauty in the world on a daily basis. Finally, like many children in China, I study hard and expect to succeed in the future.

Dr. Gert Grobler: I am Dr. Gert Grobler, a molecular biologist and geneticist with a BSc, MSc, and PhD from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. I have taught for 4 years in South Korea, 10 years in Hong Kong, and 4 years in Shenzhen, covering IGCSE, A levels, the Chinese National Curriculum, and MYP. I believe in experiential learning, encouraging students to discover answers through practical experiments. This approach helps students gain the confidence to become lifelong learners. My goal is to inspire students to reach their potential and achieve their dreams, which in turn inspires me. I am passionate about DIY Biology and I believe anyone can do biology. Outside of work, I enjoy travelling adventures, reading fantasy novels, treasure hunting through Geocaching, and playing Warhammer Age of Sigmar.

Ms. Je Hou: I am a dedicated researcher with extensive experience in bioengineering and biotechnology. My recent work at the Shenzhen Institute of Translational Medicine involves metabolic pathway engineering and the development of HPLC methods for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. I have also contributed to developing protein biosensors for rheumatoid arthritis research at the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, CAS. During my tenure at Blupha Microbial Technology Co., Ltd, I developed high-yield strains for biodegradable plastic production, resulting in a patented project. My academic background includes a Master’s degree in Bioengineering from the University of CAS, where I focused on microbial physiological and metabolic engineering, and a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from Jilin University. I am proficient in various technical skills, including protein design, cell culture, and DNA/RNA sequencing analysis. My interests outside the lab include reading, music, and dancing.

Prof. Shi Chen Prof. Shi Chen is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology. He obtained a Ph.D. from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. After postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University, he joined the faculty and later became the Dean at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Wuhan University, and then the Dean at Shenzhen Institute of Translational Medicine of The First Affiliated Hospital of Shenzhen University, China. He is a Chief Scientist of the National Key Research and Development Programme of China and a recipient of the Young Outstanding Scholar of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
