Wechat public account

  • By operating the WeChat Official Account, we can help people from different backgrounds understand our project and gain knowledge about synthetic biology, melanin, and synthetic biology in space.

We have published five original articles on our WeChat Official Account, two of which were published on the BeiShengYingCai WeChat Official Account, and four on the ECIB-PKU WeChat Official Account; and we have also released our pv on the ECIB-PKU WeChat Official Account.

Our articles were co-created by team members, aiming to describe our project in simple and vivid language, allowing more people to understand synthetic biology, space-related knowledge, issues related to ionizing radiation, knowledge about melanin, and some basic principles of materials science.

We believe it is necessary to convey our ideas to the public, to make synthetic biology known to all, and also to let our project be seen by the public, because synthetic biology is not limited to one discipline or one industry; its mission should be to better serve humanity, so it is very necessary to let more people understand.

Xiaohongshu Public Account

  • By leveraging our Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book) public account, we aim to familiarize the general public with the interesting stories from our experimental operations, breaking away from conventional stereotypes.

We have established a public account on Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book), through which we share engaging and entertaining videos captured during our experimental processes. By doing so, we aim to attract the public’s attention and provide a glimpse into the fascinating world of science and research. These videos not only showcase the lighter side of lab work but also serve as a tool for education and inspiration, making complex scientific concepts more accessible and enjoyable for a wider audience. Our goal is to spark curiosity, promote scientific literacy, and foster a community interested in exploring the latest advancements in our field.

Follow our Xiaohongshu public account to join us on this exciting journey of discovery! Here is the entrance to our public account:

Interactive communication with students

  • Output from public accounts alone is not enough, so we engage in face-to-face communication with students, popularizing knowledge about synthetic biology and leaving them with a profound impression of gene editing, molecular biology identification, and more.

The articles and videos posted on public accounts represent a one-way communication, making it difficult to grasp people’s needs to participate in synthetic biology and contribute to it. Our past activities have made us realize that we need face-to-face interactions to explain synthetic biology and obtain their feedback. On September 19th, we visited Henan Chemical Industry Technician College to popularize some content of synthetic biology to the students, including but not limited to our project.

We approached the popularization of synthetic biology by explaining why we chose melanin, why we edit the genes in melanin into engineered bacteria, why we build a co-cultivation system with microalgae and bacterial strains, and why we use hydrogels. We also covered the basics of synthetic biology from the perspective of ionizing radiation and the issues encountered in space exploration. This allowed the students to gain some impression of the foundational knowledge and provided us with their positive feedback.
