Primary PI
Prof. TSUI Kwok Wing Stephen
is currently a professor in the School of Biomedical Sciences and directors of the
Hong Kong Bioinformatics Centre and the Centre for Microbial Genomics and Proteomics in The Chinese University
of Hong Kong (CUHK). His research focuses on bioinformatics, comparative genomics and molecular biology of
clinical pathogens including human immunodeficiency virus, hepatitis B virus, influenza virus and Mycobacterium
tuberculosis. Most recently, he cracked the genome, transcriptome and microbiome of several dust mite species,
which can be linked to the house dust mite allergy.
Secondary PI
Prof. KWAN Yiu Wa
is the senior research fellow in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His main
research interests are related to the pharmacology of different drugs in treating metabolic and vascular
diseases e.g. type 2 diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis and pulmonary hypertension. He also has research interests
in the utilization of alternative / un-conventional approaches such as recombinant probiotics in treating
various diseases.
Secondary PI
Prof. HUI Xiaoyan Hannah
is currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Biomedical Sciences, as well
as the principal investigator of research grants including General Research fund (GRF), Health and Medical
Research Fund (HMRF), NSFC-RGC, and NSFC (Young Excellent Scientist). The research interest of Prof. Hui lies
solely on Adipose Tissue, a highly plastic organ in our body. By using state-of-the-art, multidisciplinary
approaches, the goal of our laboratory is to understand the molecular basis of adipose tissue remodelling and
its physiological relevance in obesity and cardio-metabolic diseases. Ultimately we seek to develop biomedicine
that can educate the dysfunctional adipose tissue to a metabolically beneficial organ.
Advisor
Mr. PANG Chun Keung Daniel
is a PhD student from Prof. Kwan lab. He mainly assists our team on the probiotics
project.
Advisor
Ms. ZHAO Xuemei
is a PhD student from Prof. Hui lab. She provides assistance to our team on the
miRNA project.
