Heureka
Heureka is a non-profit Finnish Science Centre, which opened its doors in 1989 after many years of collaborated planning. Inspired by other Science Centres over the world, University of Helsinki, Helsinki University of Technology (later Aalto University), Federation of Finnish Learned Societies and Union of Industries (later Confederation of Finnish Industries) joined forces to create one in Finland as well. Heureka shares the Joy of Discovery with an average of 300 000 visitors annually and is one of Finland’s most popular recreation centres, offering a huge variety of different interactive exhibitions, science programmes and events throughout the year.
TuKoKe
TuKoKe (in Finnish Tutki, Kokeile, Kehitä, i.e. Explore, Experiment, Develop”) is a non-profit competition aimed to support 4-20 year-old people in exploring their curiosity and developing their skills in the field of science and technology. Since 1980, participants have been entering the competition with a study, a project or an invention by themselves or as a group. TuKoKe is organised by the Development Centre Opinkirjo and TEK, the organisation for academic engineers and architects in Finland.
The participant's work is evaluated by a jury consisting of a wide range of specialists and aspiring ones. Each participant receives constructive feedback, with the purpose of telling what was done well and what can be improved in the future. The assessment considers the age and grade level of the author.
