Summary

The WHHS-Pro-China team collaborated with WHHS-China to address phosphorus-related environmental challenges. While our team focused on phosphate recovery, the WHHS-China team worked on glyphosate treatment. Throughout our collaboration, we exchanged valuable insights and improved both projects by sharing ideas. We jointly conducted interviews with tea farmers, discussed sustainable development paths, and visited a wastewater treatment plant to learn about glyphosate removal, fostering a deeper understanding of each other's projects and enhancing the environmental and social impact of our efforts.

Cooperation with WHHS-China

We had exchanges with WHHS-China and the iGEM team of Hubei University. Through this exchange, we not only deepened our understanding of each other's projects, but also received more valuable suggestions on project improvement.

We went to the tea gardens with WHHS-China for field interviews. In the tea gardens, we observed eutrophication in the areas where tea trees were watered. This discovery prompted us to think more about the impact of agricultural activities on the environment.

During our exchanges with the public welfare organization, WHHS-China received a lot of valuable advice on how to conduct environmental pollution investigations. The head of the organization shared their experience and practice in water pollution issues, helping us to plan future investigations more systematically.

We visited the sewage treatment plant with the WHHS-China team and learned in detail about the treatment process of phosphorus-containing wastewater.

Conclusion

The collaboration with WHHS-China allowed the WHHS-Pro-China team to broaden our perspective on environmental protection and improve our project through shared experiences. While our focus was on phosphate recovery, WHHS-China’s work on glyphosate treatment offered valuable insights into different aspects of phosphorus pollution. This cooperation demonstrated the power of teamwork in addressing complex environmental issues. Together, we explored innovative solutions for pollution control, and our partnership served as a model for integrating science with environmental sustainability, making significant strides towards our common goal of protecting the ecosystem.
