Overview

All experimental procedures strictly adhere to iGEM safety guidelines and the laboratory regulations of our institution, ensuring that all aspects of our project are conducted entirely within the laboratory environment.

Laboratory Safety

Laboratory Safety Training

Before entering the laboratory, all team members underwent comprehensive training courses on general laboratory safety and hygiene, chemical hazard awareness, and biosafety and biosecurity. We completed these courses and passed the required assessments to receive certification from National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University.

Laboratory Level and Regulations

Our experiments are conducted in a BSL-1 laboratory. Prior to commencing experiments, laboratory personnel provide guidance on equipment usage, handling of materials, and disposal of laboratory waste. All equipment that comes into contact with our chassis organism, Escherichia coli, is disinfected before and after use with alcohol or bleach. Instruments that will be used with E. coli are sterilized in an autoclave to ensure the absence of contaminants. Throughout the experimental process, we strictly comply with iGEM safety guidelines.

Safety of Our Project

Our project involves the use of Escherichia coli as the chassis organism, expressing receptors or peptides on its outer membrane that can bind to target proteins for subsequent detection on biochips. The detection of target proteins is performed entirely within the laboratory in compliance with safety protocols, and no components are taken outside the lab. Should customers later use our detection method, clear instructions and safety guidelines will be provided.
