This year, the JIASHU-Shanghai team contributed a total of 10 basic parts and 4 composite parts, focusing on developing a biosynthetic pathway for anti-aging compounds. Our project utilized synthetic biology to construct multiple gene circuits in E. coli for the efficient production of genistein, providing a stable and cost-effective solution for anti-aging product development.

In addition, we designed a pathway for bacterial cellulose production for skincare applications, as well as a light-inducible suicide system to ensure the biosafety of engineered bacteria in industrial processes. This innovative research offers a robust framework for future iGEM teams, demonstrating how synthetic biology can be leveraged for the production of complex compounds while opening new possibilities for developing functional cosmetics and health products.

The parts we have developed will be highly beneficial to future iGEM teams working on biosynthetic pathways, cosmetic innovations, and bioproduct safety systems. Our work on genistein biosynthesis provides a reliable route for producing natural compounds in microorganisms, paving the way for further optimization or expansion into other bioactive compounds. The light-inducible suicide system offers an advanced safety feature, which can be adapted for various microbial applications, ensuring control over engineered organisms. Our contributions serve as a foundation for future projects looking to merge biotechnology with consumer health and sustainability initiatives.
