We are the XJU-China 2024 iGEM. Our project called “Polyethylene Microplastic Shredders”. We hope our
research can contribute to the restoration of the ecological environment.
What we focus on
We are focused on finding enzymes that can efficiently degrade microplastics in order to repair the natural
environment.
How we work
We collected samples and made a metagenomic database from which target genes were screened for
heterologous expression.
Finally, it was verified whether the expressed enzyme has the function of efficiently degrading
microplastics.
Benefits
Our experimental method and detection method will provide reference for the study of microplastics
biodegradation.
And......
The study was conducted in northwest China, where most of the samples came from. We hope that our research
can
contribute to bioremediation of the environment.
