Our Team

Our team consists of 15 students and 3 mentors. Our students come from Nanjing, Beijing, Xi'an and other places around the world, and some of them are still attending high school abroad. In this iGEM event, our students overcame various difficulties and actively completed the tasks specified by iGEM.

Our Project

Our project focuses on developing a new DNA synthesis technology using the enzymatic method.

This involves Terminal deoxynucleotidyl Transferase, or TdT, an unique DNA polymerase discovered in calf thymus. TdT becomes the most outstanding one because it doesn't require a template to synthesize DNA, making it ideal for the next-generation DNA synthesis.

Our Contributions

We successfully constructed and expressed ZaTdT from Zonotrichia albicollis. We also tested various sources of TdT, including Bovine Terminal Deoxynucleotidyl Transferase (Part: BBa_K1354002), for recombinant expression activity in an E. coli expression system.

We have collaborated with the Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps of Nanjing University and Lecture Team of School of Life Sciences to leverage university resources in order to disseminate the concepts and knowledge of synthetic biology to a wider and more diverse audience.

Human Practices

In Human Practices section, our team did the following tasks:

  1. Distributed a questionnaire on DNA synthetic biology and performed data visualization and data analysis;
  2. Had an in-depth discussion with Professor Sun Hao of Nanjing University;
  3. Interviewed the CEO of Xi'an Mark Medical Technology Co., Ltd.;
  4. Interviewed Professor Jean-Francois Hocquette of France;

Laboratory Experiments

Our members used the weekends and summer vacation to conduct experiments in the laboratory of Nanjing University School of Life Sciences. During the experiment, the three supervisors led our team members to conduct practical experiments, obtained the results of the experiment and conducted data analysis. This is the first time that most members have entered the biological laboratory for experimental operations. Everyone has harvested a lot. And at the same time, we have also gained precious friendship.
